Introduction to Church History
THE1000
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course will focus on events that took place in past centuries—specifically, from the ascension of Jesus to the present day. Our Christian identity is linked to a broader history—what historians call a "metanarrative" or overarching story—in which we are active participants through the redemptive action of God, who is sovereignly the Lord of history. The Church is the continuation of the people of God in the building and advancement of the Kingdom, called, saved, and enlightened by the Holy Spirit, who sustains His Church. Therefore, we will study the history of the Church from the early period through the medieval era, the Reformation, and the period from the Reformation to the present day.
